And The Award For The Greatest Living Female Rock 'N' Roll Star Goes To.....
Melissa Etheridge
Do you doubt, or disagree, or scoff?
If so, simply put a copy of her Greatest Hits CD, "The Road Less Traveled," followed by a copy of her latest release CD, "The Awakening," on a good stereo and listen to them with the volume turned up real LOUD!
Sheesh. I am not doubting YOUR love of her music. But why is it I can only think of ONE song that she does... something about a window? I have to laugh, Spencer.... you sure know how to talk in superlatives ... the greatest, the best... etc.
I sure wish I had access to either of those cds. I do like her, I think. No scoffing. Just a wee bit of confusion. I didn't even know you LIKED her music... now she's number one!
Why is it you can only think of ONE song that Melissa Etheridge does... something about a window? Probably for a reason similar to why you "knew nothing" about Leonard Cohen until just a few days ago, I'd bet. As for the song, "Come to My Window," you may have heard of that one because it won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Or, perhaps you saw the telecast during which Etheridge performed "Come to My Window" as part of The Concert for New York City, the benefit concert following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Early during that performance, her microphone failed, leaving Etheridge to play her guitar without singing while an alternate mic was being found. Famously, the audience, made up largely of members of the New York City fire and police departments (and survivors of NYPD and FDNY personnel who were lost in the attacks) sang the lyrics themselves until Etheridge's mic was restored.
