Tart Trumps Sweet When it Comes to Me and Fruit

I like nearly every kind of fruit. My favorites are the berries. Maybe that is because we grew them, unlike the citrus fruits. strawberries and raspberries are wonderful. But I like juneberries and blueberries too. We had plums that I didn't care for, but I adore them made into my grandma's homemade plum jelly.

Bananas are a fruit I eat often but I like them to be as spot free as possible. Yet, too green and they aren't the right flavor either. It's a delicate thing. The best part about the banana is the peel and go ease of use. I love grapes... both green and red. And I prefer the seedless variety. I like cranberries in things and rhubarb too. Though I am not sure I would like them by themselves. Fresh peaches are fantastic and nectarines too. My mouth waters at the thought.

Apples are less of a favorite, though I do like them sliced and dipped in plain yogurt. I have never been one to eat an apple by just biting into it. I'm not sure why. I thinkit's the skin. Because I didn't like the skin as a child I never learned to eat them that way and since I'm not in the habit I would still rather slice it and eat it or peel it first. Granny Smiths are my favorites. I just love the tart flavor.

I like oranges but there is never a guarantee that they'll be flavorful or watery and it's such an effort to get that peel off. Ugh. I do love the little clementines we get at Christmas around my hometown. They are tiny and easy to peel and delicious nearly every time. Grapefruit is a favorite. I prefer that tartness to the sweet flavors any day. I used to halve them and eat them with grapefruit spoons. Now I often peel them and eat them like most do an orange. Grapefruit juice is a preferred juice. I love pineapple and yet I've never tried to eat a fresh one that I had to prepare myself.

I have only tasted watermelon one time that I actually liked. I typically don't eat any of the melons: honeydew, mus melon, or watermelon. Canned pears are something I can live without. Again it is the consistency. They are stringy and grainy feeling in my mouth. The flavor I enjoy, though. I think I prefer them fresh. I just don't eat them very often. I have never eaten figs or a number of the more "exotic fruits."
